Ms. Livingston’s class is finishing up their first global collaboration project “A Week in the Life” by Flat Connections. They collaborated with students from Colorado, Indiana and Virginia about environmental issues that our communities are facing. They researched and discussed one of eight different topics which include Air Pollution, Coal Mining, Eating Locally, Forest Fires, Flooding, Fracking, Wildlife Conservation, and Water Pollution. All students contributed in creating a survey that we sent out to international friends. The students then analyzed the information to understand how the environment affects everyone in the world.  The class was able to Skype with a class in Indiana to discuss the topics live. All students used Edmodo to communicate with the other students in their groups. Indiana, Virginia and Colorado classes also presented a Student Summit of what they learned on the Global Education Conference in November. The students presentation skills were developed during this time and their depth of knowledge was broadened. The culminating project was for groups to create a VoiceThread of photos of the environmental issues and comment on what they learned and what they can do about the issues. This is authentic learning that engaged the students.
